Large AP Games
There has been quite some discussion about large AP games going on over on the at-43 forums lately. As the number of total points on the board increases, so too must the number of control points that you have for a given mission. Most of the scenarios in the rulebook are tuned for 2-3k points, so when you start pushing into the 5-6k range things start to break down a little bit.
If you have 3 control points and 2000 points to attack or defend each point you are not really forced to make any large tactical decisions. You will have more than enough infantry to capture all of the RP/VP points easily so that removes any strategy from your Assault/Reinforcement split decisions. Similarly you wont be forced to decide where to attack since you can just send an entire battalion to any place that needs attention.
If you do play large point value games you can make sure that the games are more balanced by increasing the number of control points and the VP required to win by the same proportion , playing on a wider board, and ensuring that the number of RP / AP points ensure that you are forced to play tactically when it comes to choosing which places you will capture.
Can 2000ap missions in main rulebook be used at 3000ap without modification?
At 2000ap I have to leave out too much of Karman Army. I do intend to try them at 2000ap first.
Cool. I’m playing Mission #3, my Karmans vs RB at the weekend. We’ll probably stick to 2000ap & hope to have enough time to both be attacker (I.e. 2 battles). Nice to know we have the option to up to 3k in future.
Yeah for 3000 point games the rulebook missions work out fine. Its really only when you push into the 4500+ range that more control points are helpful to balance things out.
