Rackham is regulary selling off their stuff for -30 to -70%, thus basically eliminating the LGS, which can never offer this prices and stock.
Which I personally find a pitty, because the LGS is what promotes the game in our country.

I found that meanwhile I can get almost everything cheaper at Amazon or Ebay. Unfortunately for the LGS. But I'll keep buying there from time to time for the sake of loyalty.
If I find more space for more games.

Only two of us play AT-43 at my local store, some people come over to watch but then cringe when they hear that the models are pre-painted. For folks with not a lot of free time like myself AT-43 is perfect, there is something to be said taking a game out of the box and being able to play it in less than an hour.

Went with option B.
Unfortunately COGS had all their AFVs in re-inforcement and I lost trikes to his infantry rockets before they could achieve anything :(

Fortunately I won the next battle :)

Thanks.

Option B is certainly all-or-nothing. However, if I lose, the COGS will have to fight another Company of mine at the sector they're trying to move to, so I may be able to go risky :)
St. Anuman has the campaign medal that gices re-rolls on penetration, so impoves his effectiveness against the Vandal.

I can't 100% guarantee the Vandal will be there, but this build will make mincemeat of any type ones he fields or summons anyway.

One issue is activation order: If I win authority and bring on Jindo first into overwatch, there's the risk that the Vandal will position itself so only half Jindo's guns can fire.
I could put JU and ETs as last two, and use delayed activation if neccessary to make sure they both come on after the Vandal.

Re. ONI, I'm the first to get any in my group. I don't think the 1 repair of the LD is worth it, but Option C could have a nice surpise factor.

If you're going the Jindo-Un Route I would watch out for deflector shields from the T-Regulators. This will make taking those AFV's out quite difficult until you can kill the hero.

You've got snipers to hep deal with that situation should it arise. I find the medtec + K-shooter combo to be devastating good choice there.

You don't want to get into a shootout with the cogs and taking out the vandal is going to be the highest priority. I would risk using the 3 easy trike combo last activation, first activation and hope to take out the vandal, you have K-shooters to back them up. Then just BBQ around the board if they survive or focus on the smaller afvs.

I find with Jindo it is either all or nothing, it can pay off big or fail miserably. I haven't had much chance to play with ONI as a mercenary force so I'm not sure how that would play out.

I would tend to lean towards option B if I knew a vandal was coming, that would put a serious dent in the cogs ability to deal damage from the first few turns and make it safe for your (few) infantry.

I've playing in a Frostbite campaign and have a Concord Square battle due against the COGS. Phase 1 so 2000 split 1500/500. My faction is Flux vs. Generic Cogs.

As it's a relaticely open map I expect COGS to field a Vandal, plus thier normal Type 1 AFV-summoning.

I plan to use St Anuman's hijacking ability to turn the COG AFVs against them, with possible ONI backup (I have ONI Box plus Samedi another Lt Enforcer).

Possible lists:

Option A.

Platoon 1
- 2 K-Shooters*
- 3 Medtec
- Jindo-Un (+ Saint Anuman)
- 2 Easy Trike (Mentor)
- 2 Kaptars Sniper Team*
Platoon 2 (ONI)
- 3 Medtec*
- 1 Light Destroyer (Samurai)
Off platoon
- 3 Civilians
[*Re-enforcements]

The 4 AFVs plan to sieze the centre, the ONI LD provideing repair to keep the others in play. Disadvantage - no grounding and little dedicated anti-infantry.

Option B:
Platoon 1
- 2 K-Shooters* (Mentor)
- 3 Medtec
- Jindo-Un* (+ Saint Anuman)
- 3 Easy Trike (Mentor)
- 2 Kaptars Sniper Team*
Off platoon
- 3 Civilians

Similar tactics, fielding a 3rd ET for survivability instead of relying on repair. Similar disadvantages.

Option C.
Platoon 1
- 2 K-Shooters*
- 3 Medtec
- Jindo-Un (+ Saint Anuman)
- 2 Easy Trike
- 2 Kaptars Sniper Team*
Platoon 2
- 6 Super Zombie R. Alpha (+ Samurai B. Samedi, 1 Zombie Gun)
Off platoon
- 3 Civilians

A more balanced list. The 3 Zombie Guns provide grounding and possiblity to convert infantry as well as AFVs.

Any thoughts?

A message for tabletop wargamers and where AT-43 fits in...

There is no simple explanation as to why some have success while others do not. Tabletop gaming is and will always remain outside the mainstream, particularly with the advent of PC / video gaming...as well as the portability and lesser space needed for board and card games. That being stated, there is, however, a commited group of individuals interested in table top miniatures style games.

So what of AT-43 and Rackham as a whole...?

AT-43 has an interesting theme, prepainted miniatures, and is relatively easy to learn and play, but has tactical depth...sounds good so far. However, speaking from my own experience, I live in Phoenix, AZ where there are only 2 active tabletop game related stores, which both stock and sell Rackham products, but the tables and calendars are booked with GW and a few others...NO Rackham or AT-43.

Some 20 years ago, a friend and I discovered a store in North Los Angeles which was very small but very well run for its time. The owners actively played games alternately with the customers using their own miniatures, not requiring any purchases, etc...and after a couple of plays I became hooked.

My advise to Rackham is this....you need to develop grass root support for your products through "liaison gamers' who will target and recruit your audience.

I see many people go in and out of gaming specialty stores empty handed and game tables sitting unused. Why? Every customer is an opportunity, particularly the 10-15 age group. As a liaison, I would set aside a table for AT-43 for a demo during peak times, set up display materials to be viewed, and have the game packs, starters, etc. ready at hand with prudently marked down items.

Last world on the subject: If you are a gamer, it's not an either/or proposition. Most gamers play multiple titles. There is no reason why GW and Rackham cannot coexist. Players will have preferences and there is SO much about AT-43 to like and different from the competition, that it should succeed. Evaluate the areas within the US and Europe where it is selling well and being actively played, and I will show you players and owners recruiting. Stores and games have much in common - their live span depends upon 'new' blood.

This is a rule that has been clarified in the rules forum. This was a problem in translation for the stealth rules. Instead of "automatic failure" they really meant "automatic miss". If you use the definition of automatic failure from the rulebook then you are correct but unfortunately as with many rules in the rulebooks they have been translated poorly or the definitions have changed over time. Here is a link to the rules forum ruling regarding this. http://en-forum.at-43.com/viewtopic.php?t=5719

Hope that clears things up a little. Thanks for pointing that out though, when we read that rules forum post it made us scratch our heads and say "what?".

actually you cannot fire at and hit stealth units at a range band greater than 1. the stealth rule specifically states that shots fired at it from a range band greater than one are "automatic failures", and the indirect fire rules state that if the shooting test would result in an "automatic failure" then the shot is "lost in the blue and therefore doesn't hit anything." (official rules pg. 65).

In fact R have prodused almost all units form armybooks.
But you can't buy it anywhere.
And that's the main problem.

I have proxied this in 2 battles, this ones are killers.... the deflector shield makes the Vandal (and 2 support Prowlers) monsters of endurance in particualr if you add the autorepair...

Not to mention the T-regulator advantage (running and shooting) the disadvantage in small games is not noticeable as you have few units thus the random deployment hurts not that much

While the box gives you a good start I dont really think it gaves you a good force, especially if you compare it, for example, to the red blok box, here in Asutria there will be a small tournament with 2000 AP locked lists (i,e. those from the box or made for this tournament, the lists are:

UNA (*):
- Fire Crawler (-)
- Copperhead (Colonel G. Stark)
- 3 Steel TacArms (Sergeant, Laser Targeter)
- 8 Star Troopers (Sergeant, 1 Volcano MG, 2 Medic)
- 7 Steel Troopers (Master-Sergeant, 1 Missile Launcher, 2 Mechanic)

THERIANER:
- 6 Grims Golems (Omega, 1 Flamer)
- Baal Golgoth (Relay)
- 3 Bane Goliaths (Relay)
- Incubus Golgoth (Alpha)
- 6 Storm Golems (Alpha, 1 Sonic Gun)

RED BLOCK:
- 12 Krasnye Soldaty (Captain, 3 Grenade Launcher, 2 Medic)
- 8 Krasnye Soldaty (Sergeant, 1 Grenade Launcher, 2 Mechanic)
- 6 Dragonov Kommandos (Sergeant, 1 Sniper Gun, 1 Medic, 1 Electronic warfare)
- Urod (Colonels Odin & Manon)
- Dotch Yaga (-)

KARMANS:
- 4 Kaptars (Mentor Freezer, Mechanic, Karmic Warrior)
- 5 Wendigos (Venerable Cornelius, Medic, Karmic Warrior)
- 2 Jungle Trike (Mentor)
- Storm Mammoth (Guru, Karmic Warrior)

COGS:
- 4 Warmongers (C-naps G09, G45)

ONI:

-12 Super Zombies Reanimator (Shomyo, 2 Zombie Gun Bearers, 1 Zombie Master, 1 Medic)

Yes, everything cheap, compared to EU, specially middle Europe. In Germany, Austria is near everything cheaper (and 5x bigger salary). But its same fairy tale again, again :-)

So EU prices are high. Maybe in US nobody will buy stuff which will have same prices as in EU :-)))

I know few players, we starting some advertisement on some game week, gamecons and more. Problem is that no game shop has this stuff and nobody want it put in stock.

If I compare shipping cost from US to Czech. Its same price per model as in EU.
for example unit cost 10$ in US, with shipping to CZ it costs 10 Eur.
Its still good, but new models is near same, mostly better to buy directly from R.

We need some advertisement and at least on shop with stuff :-)
One month ago I have done some exhibition of AT-43 on one game week. Many games were there, and a lot of people said that AT-43 is very very good looking and great game.
and asked me, where can they buy it.
I said... ehm, EU and US. :-)
So I wont be new distributor, I have another biz.

TOG game is in all shops :-) Many gamers have same level of frustration with painting , scenery, IGOWHOLEARMYOUDIEINFIRSTROUD etc. I will want other game, if they know more about that..

And we lost few players with old rules problem (routines, errata for many units etc.)

look at the offer our shops

http://www.pekelnykotlik.cz/
http://tomovyhry.cz
http://www.hras.cz

TOG, TOG, TOG and a lot of other minis games.

I think ONI will make better reputation :-)

I'm sorry to hear that you have trouble getting your shop to stock the game. I am fortunate that I am in Canada and can take advantage of fairly cheap shipping from the US. From what I've seen the EU prices are astronomical compared to the US ones.

Would a dedicated player locator help you find more players or do you think that because of the high shipping costs to the Czech Republic that the chances of there being any more AT-43 players is small?

Vastatum, I tell you why we havent player. Because we havent this game in ours game shop.

MTG, TOG a lot of other shit there. But AT-43 not.

Our local gaming shop stopped selling AT-43 because of Rackham delay and high shipping cost from Rackham (stupidity from R). But its a year ago.

Now we re trying to help ourselves.

Agreed, I share his frustration that AT-43 hasn't blown up massively yet. We all know the game is the best thing since sliced bread and can't understand why there aren't a bajillion players buying and playing it.

Its got Gorillas in Power armour! What more do you need!

Is dual Urod permitted? I know that GenCol allows multiple heros via cloning, but pg 79 of the rulebook states that only one rank 5 officer is allowed per company.
Does GenCol get around this as well?

This has been Errata'd now - thankfully - and he can join any rank 1 infantry unit.
Errata found here: http://www.rackham.fr/newsletter/cry_online/img82/Errata_AT43_US.pdf

There are also rumours that Mentor Freezer will be fixed soon by Rackham, possibly to co-incide with the Karmans Army Box release after Christmas. We already know that the Army Box will have some new rules released in the form of a new version of the King Mammoth equipped with twin Rocket Launchers, and there may also be some changes to the Jungle Trikes such as upgraded armour or structure points... we hope.

I came into playing this game around the time that the CHOs were sort of being "phased" out. I have read the old issues, thanks in large part to Nazgul. I can see a need for these but as recently posted on the forums, RE will be moving to a more global method of getting this type of information out when the new site is up. There already have been improvements to the RE sites....

We had assumed that Darius went with the Kaptars because he is equipped like them. It makes absolutely no sense to put him with the Anakongas. This was obviously a mistake that Rackham refused to admit. We will be playing him as a Kaptar hero.

There are no indications that Rackham will go belly up. They have always been having production problems since the beginning of time its sort of become a bit of a joke in the community that they'll never release anything on time.

The original pre frostbite UNA troops are very hard to find right now, even firetoads are hard to come by. I don't know when Rackham is planning on doing another batch of steel/star troopers or what camo scheme they would have.

Multiple camo schemes are a point of contention in the community lots of people love them lots of people hate them for creating a mismatched look on the battlefield. This is definitely not an indication of the health of rackham, just the crappiness of their overseas production, they just seem unable to do things correctly on time.

I feel your pain about UNA though, I have a friend that recently got into the game and is also having a ton of trouble getting UNA steel troopers and Fire toads.

I don't think it goes against the spirit of the rules myself. The way I view stealth is that it does not completely hide a unit from being detected, what it does do is prevent it from being shot at with any degree of success. I know the enemy is moving somewhere over in that general direction so lets pour a ton of template weapons over there and hope to hit them.

One of my favourite sayings is "close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades" and that definitely applies to the stealthed units.

In AT-43 stealthed units are detectable you can see them on the battlefield you know where they are moving to and can move your troops to counter their own movement, you just can't shoot them with precision weapons very effectively because you don't know exactly where they are. Template weapons just need to be "close" and they will always miss and scatter to represent the fact the gunners are simply guessing at the exact location of the enemy.

You know, I really thought you weren't allowed to shoot--as in even TRY to shoot a stealthed unit. Is this an interpretation of the rules or is it literally stated this way? Sorry, but I'm travelling and don't have my book with me. Do you feel this goes against the spirit of the rules (like players who try to target indirect fire on a wall so they can hit the soldiers hidden behind it in the blast... glad the FAQ stopped that nonsense) or is it something all players will be comfortable with?

It says "Red Blok Ruler" on the box, but it isn't that clear-red, hard plastic thing you are thinking... it is a French translation "issue"... they mean a tape measure that has a yellow Red Blok symbol on the side instead of the old version that had the red Rackham serpant.

These are also not repacks nor previousely released pieces. These are special version made for this box. The troops have mono-chrome tan pants instead of the red and tan camo. They are also missing the old emblems on the shoulder pads. Oden and Manon have new paint jobs, more simple, though the hair is brighter this round. And the vehicles have slightly "softer" looking paint jobs. Don't worry, though, the vehicles look fine with your old army pieces and look great with this new set.

You also get 12 dice (the normal black Rackham ones, not the Red Blok Dice Tin version), 6 low walls (like in the Damocles set) and a very brief intro set of rules and a single page tactical "manual" which would be better named as a tactical insert.

Your Dragonov setup has an issue... in the army box you get 2 standard komandos, 1 EWS, 1 sniper, 1 officer, and 1 medic. You don't get any standard komandos in an attachment box which leaves you with one slot short in your 9-man team. I suppose you could use your attachment box Gauss trooper in that slot if nobody cares at your table.

The only item that appears unchanged (beside the dice and walls) is the container. It matches the old containers perfectly.

The best part of this box, though, is the value. I can't believe they put a Dotch yaga in there at this price. Nice.

Curtain of Flames blocks line of sight of any unit that draws a line through the base of the King Mammoth to its target (including the mammoth itself). This does not work in reverse as Karman units behind the curtain can shoot through it at enemies. This essentially makes the king mammoth a line of sight blocking piece of cover.

Note that you can shoot the king mammoth on overwatch when it moves as your overwatch fires before it can engage its curtain of flames again.

Hope this helps.

Can you please give an example of how this ability works? I picked up mine during the FFG sale and just got a chance to play it recently against a friend. There was confusion over the wording on how the rule works. Do any enemies with the curtain between them lose line of site> or is it within a certain distance? Hope you can clear this up for me.

Thanks for the nice summary of the K's, very useful for tactical army building. You might want to revise the K-Burners' description for consistency in regard to their ungroundable capacity as of the 2009 rules.

Ironic how the site is still running and Zac suddenly has time now that the site is sponsored. If he needed sponsorship to continue running the site he should have asked for sponsorship, instead of simply turning his site off in the middle of a contest he was running. This left many gamers who had signed up, bought miniatures, painted them up with the hope of winning prizes in a state of limbo.

Shutting down a site with no warning to the sponsors that were contributing prizes, the users that had invested money in the hope of winning prizes was extremely ill thought out. In fact it appeared that no thought went into how to elegantly shut down at all. In my book one only does something like that out of pure frustration or anger hence the "nerd rage" moniker. If he was truly thinking of shutting the site why start a contest that required users to buy miniatures in order to enter?

Was I personally invested in said contest, yes I was. Was I venting about the extreme lack of professionalism and the feeling of being duped into a contest, that at the time, looked like it had no possibility of continuing? You bet I was.

I appreciate your honest opinion. You may never come back to read this comment but it is nice to know there are people out there that aren't afraid to call you out on something.

The guy says that he simply doesn't want to devote the time to the site anymore and you call this "nerd rage frustration"?

Sounds like someone's panties got in a bunch cause his favorite gaming website is getting taken down. Yea, the guy doesn't want to do it anymore... get over it, it's his choice to make.

Sheesh, give a guy his own website and he thinks he can just barf up any delusional miss-information about anyone.

Not that I know of. I would imagine though that someone will pay the ransom money to have the site back up and running (Zac would likely pick up a co owner in the process). There is too much marketing value for small indie shops for them to let it disappear overnight like that.

In the time I've spent reading TGN I have learned of so many interesting games that I would have never known otherwise. It's indeed a shame now that the site is gone.

Are there other generic miniatures news sites that would sort of fill in the niche out there?

Even at lower point values, by taking a type III you're limiting the number of troops that can actually win you the game so it balances out. When 40% of your points are tied up in one model, there aren't going to be a whole lot of infantry and that becomes a huge weakness.

yup, you've got it. The box will include a tape measure, blast template, containers and low wall sections. 6 of the red blok army dice and the measurement ruler should also be in the box as well. You will be able to pick up one of these armies and have everything you need to play in the box.

So is this starter set just a collection of previously released pieces?
Is the idea here its a 'bulk buy' so you save a few bucks?
Will there be any terrain pieces included?

Thanks,

Thanks for the article. I also have a tendency to work on the bases by putting on the appropriate flock. It really helps the pre-paints, along the other figs. My Em4 figs look okay but throw on a bit of flock and some black and grey to bring out an asphalt look and the SWAT troops look better.

I know how you feel about Red Blok. I love playing them because of how survivable they are. Throw a ton of models at your opponent and some of them are bound to get into shooting range. The Cogs look like their units will be composed similarly to the Karmans. As for look its definitely one of those love it or hate it things. I really like the infantry but really dislike the type *** AFV.

Ugh Im torn. Ive wanted to play the cogs as my second army as soon as i saw their infantry but i just dont agree with the design of their 2 afv's and high point cost low numbers. Just look at all you get with the red block army. Sure they cant hit the broad side of a barn but the special weapons are maxxed out plus officers and medics/engies/mechanics and there is still a lot of clearance out there.

I find it interesting that the RB starter box is basically a 2,000 point vanilla platoon build. So maybe the Cogs starter is the same? 8 troops, 3 heroes and 2 AFVs = 2k army for Cogs, which means for once the Karmans won't find themselves heavily outnumbered on the battlefield :D

This is very good news indeed! Thanks to the AT-43 Addict!

The cog fighters are taller than the containers, making them quite impressive on the battlefield. Ironically, the container and walls are useless for the cogs, since it provides no cover to them (special cog rule) and it does not block of sight, being smaller than the fighers. It does provide high ground for shooters, though.

Also, after trying the units of the Cog Army Box with the Easy AT-43 software, it appears that with that box's composition, only the generic Cog army profile can be selected as a faction :

- All heroes belong to the C-Naps faction, which can only be used with a generic army or the C-Naps faction;
- The first section slot required (!) for a C-Naps army is *** Infantry (e.g. Hunters), which are not included in this set.

Furthermore, it is infortunate that no unit can include special weapon bearers, which are only available to the cogs at full unit numbers (for a very high AP cost).

Nevertheless, I've got to get my hands on those!

Yeah its hard to say whether these boxes are priced as a loss leader or not. I will definitely be picking them up though, I don't have a DY yet and I want some cogs to play around with. At 70 MSRP (likely available for less than 60) There is no way I could pass this up.

Indeed it is a good move and I hope they do that for the rest of the armies. *but* hopefully they won't make the boxes too self sufficient or else you'll have people *just* buy the army boxes and nothing else. Kinda like the WHFB battalion boxes, these armies hopefully will be the beginning and not an end.

If they are making a profit off the boxes it kinda confirms that the minis at the current price point were a wee bit jacked up in price, tho.

This was an update to the rules, it was proving a bit overpowered to have any AFV officer (or any officer in a cypher list) able to create a Hekat. <a href="http://en-forum.at-43.com/viewtopic.php?t=3639" rel="nofollow">source</a>. So now only the company commander can use the creation routine.

I would increase the size of the grim golem unit to use up any leftover points. Each extra fighter gives you another 2 dice to roll in melee. Doing so would require another box of grim golems though (which you'll likely end up wanting at some point anyways for a full strength stealthed unit)

RE the extra 500 ap, the mammoth curtain of flames wouldn't be as beneficial to this list, but the firepower more than makes up for it. Give it a go though, the mammoth firepower is very powerful. I would try to increase the number of models though for the points myself, more targets to shoot at is always good. Maybe some Jungle trikes, or another jungle/king buggy.

Without something that moves fast with flamers, infantry has very little to be afraid of. The King buggy can be used to quickly eliminate infantry based threats. More easy trikes are definitely an option though, but might be too anti afv heavy.

My group's settled on playing at 2500ap. What would you do with the extra 500ap? I'd upgrade the Buggy to a Mammoth.

yes a heavy infantry list would be the best way to defeat this. Anti AFV Supra, Morningstar lists would be hard to beat for instance.

Thats part of the beauty of AT43, you can build a specialized list to utterly stomp an opponents strategy, but your list is just as easily countered.

These new lists are less beginner lists, they aren't the jack of all trade armies that you should start with, but an example of some highly specialized lists that excel at a particular strategy.

If you have an opponent that loves running frontline or Mind for instance this is a perfect way to take them down a notch.

Seems like a very devastating list! I'm eager to try this one!

But would it not be very vulnerable to anti-AFV infantry units, such as Bane Goliaths or Dragomirov Kolossus?

You're correct, but there was a rule clarification made previous to this one that changed how laser tagging worked. The previous ruling made it difficult to keep track of which units were "tagged". This ruling (more in line with what it says in the rulebook) streamlines play and removes a lot of opportunity for disagreement whether a unit can be tagged or not.

I'm going to try it out as well. I've played a lot of similar tile based "king of the hill" type games, but not at 3k points. With a larger board you might see some interesting tactics in play.

The Figures here are standard fighters, I'm not sure if these are pictures of the production minis or if they have been retouched by a painter. I got the pictures from the latest CHO and it didn't specify.

The Cogs standard infantry (Warmongers for instance) seem to come in boxes of 4 much like the karmans. I would think that they will be packaged similarly for their full range.

These guys will come in units of 2 much like the karman K-units.

That's a wonderful preview! I'm curious and eager to see more of this beautiful line, with the addition of a new species to the AT-43 world! I can hardly imagine, though, how they could be fighting the UNA the way they're depicted by the Muse agency ("a peaceful species" and "an economic partner".)

Do you know by any luck:
1-if these figures shown here are to be heroes, or classical fighters?
2-if the painting we see is "final" or a high-grade showcase by Rackham?
3-if the cog armies are to include some relatively large units boxes (e.g. 5+figures per box)?

Thanks!

They absolutely can. Put guru lucius with some anakongas armed with flamers. They can quickly reach a centrally contested VP location, their stealth will keep them protected and the flamers and drum guns will fend off the enemy. Use a smaller unit of wendigos keep them out of line of sight to grab another location.

Arceo with jamers and jindo is a nasty combo with this list as well as the captured AFV's can suddenly control points too. turning an empty RP/VP point on the opposite side of the board into one you control.

Can armies with expensive, fragile units-- like Karmans-- convincingly threaten a VP blitz? Or is the pain of each lost unit so high that their point holders won't keep the enemy away?

Thanks for answering this one busby. I must have missed this one last week. As busby has said there are 2 versions of dash, one for infantry that lets them cover 30cm as a rush movement and one for AFVs which lets them cover 50cm as a rush. In both cases the routine costs 2 LP.

rabidaskal, you wanted to know: The maneuver you are thinking of is the infantry rush that Therians have, allowing them to move a total of 30cm. The AFV version of that: Dash, allows vehicles to move 50cm.

I've been following this since the beginning and I agree with your statements. As a 40K player who just got sick of that game during the mess that was 4th Ed, I drifted over to AT-43 and bought some models and proxied others to try it out. Needless to say I was impressed, but the prices were a bit high and the company a bit too distant to feel good about. While I could afford the minis, I could see that many young players would be intimidated at a new and somewhat costly game.

With this sale and a clear effort on the part of Rackham to reach out, I'm optimistic in a way I wasn't last year. AT-43 really could be primed for a breakout. Let's hope.

Good question. Since Tiamat is an AFV she uses the AFV version of the Dash routine. This lets any AFV cover up to 50 cm. Hope that helps.

Sorry, I'm kinda new and not familiar with the armies, how does Tiamat cover 50cm with Dash? I thought Dash let Therian units travel 'up to 30cm.' Does that mean that dashing Therians get +30cm to regular movement?

Thanks, glad you like the new addition. After the success of the "getting started" section (the most viewed page by far) I thought I would tackle the next thing on my laundry list of "things that rackham should have done". An errata section that made sense.

you are right you would have a very low LP pool for the first turn. The goal of deploying like this though is to be able to grab enough RP points first turn to have urod come in second turn its a bit of a risk vs reward situation. for a more standard split I would leave the dragonovs with AT-Gauss and 1 sierp in reinforcement, the thinking being that you want the hussar on from turn one to take advantage of the missile launcher and getting the snipers into position first turn is essential so they can start using their sniper ability. AT-gauss is viable from the turn they enter the board. since your vehicles can hold points getting 310 - 510 points of RP first turn isn't much of a problem and you should have your full army on the table turn 2.

Quick question who acts as your CC if Urod is in your reinforcement pool? It seem that your LPs would be limited greatly without the O-1 and O-2 Colonels. If they deploy what would your suggested split be for a 1500/500 Assualt?

Love your website! Keep up the great work!

I think that LGS are becoming less and less relevant when it comes to product sales. Almost everything you can purchase in a LGS you can purchase online for enough of a discount to warrant purchasing off "teh intrawebs." Our hobbies are massively expensive, and in this economy, discounts become particularly important.

LGS are still relevant for play areas...but now we have the conundrum.

The only reason for a LGS to provide play areas is if the players are purchasing product from the LGS.

Some people are willing to spend a little extra coin to support their LGS. Myself, I only pick up things like paints, or if I need a single box of models such that the shipping cost I would pay equates to the savings off the retail price such that I may as well give the LGS my business, and it most certainly means more to them.

But for large purchases? I go straight to The War Store when I am starting a new army and need a large number of units all at once to get them on the table.

One of the things I did very quickly after getting into tabletop wargaming was to build my own table for play at home. It is not very difficult: two 2' by 4' pieces of MDF, some paint, a bunch of wood glue, some brushes, and some sand. Takes a few hours. Done.

Of course, with AT-43's gaming tiles and all our containers and walls thrown in, you don't even need the table built. Throw down a poster to mark the play area, place your terrain, and get to rolling dice.

Well put busby. I would say the environment that the LGS provides goes way beyond what you can get "nerding it up" at someone's house (we use the same term here too). Nerding it up does have its advantages though. You can enjoy a nice pint of beer and you get to choose what tunes get played.

Personally, I think the LGS is still a very valid place to congregate at. It isn't always as easy for a group of players to get together in their own homes and 'nerd' it up (as some of us put it locally). Having a LGS to hang out at, buy a few immediately needed items, and generally have fun is definitely still a requirement, at least for me.

Besides, unlike a previous poster, my LGS is up for supporting any games that the locals decide to suddenly take up/try out!

I think that LGS aren't as relevant but are still the better model for the sake of a gaming community. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be a great business to be in.

You're right there could have been more information on Oni We've got a lot of details come out about the Cogs, but we've only been teased with a few production pictures of Oni.

Not getting CHO in my inbox was also a hassle. Hopefully they get those problems ironed out for next month.

Landing is a bit of an interesting scenario as the attacker isn't trying to compete for VP point positions. In this situation you'll want to be able to take out infantry units primarily as getting AFV's off the table does not generate enough VP for the attacker to win. As the attacker a few smaller units is definitely the way to go as you get to increase the number of medics / overseers with reconstruction available to you and improve the chances a unit will make it off the battlefield. As the defender you want to be able to ground units to buy you time to generate VP. So smaller point holder units would be good but you only have 1 special weapon. A full sized point holder cover 2 of the side VP points. A unit with 2/3 flamers will make any small unit think twice about trying to advance through them. I'd say give it a go and see which might work out best for you.

How about multiple, smaller point holders which can gobble up more key locations?

For example, in Landing, we find we need more, smaller units in order to cover all the objectives. Yes they are elimated more quickly, but then again you get more activations too.

You're right your LP are very important to use effectively, it really can make the difference between success and failure. I would say the activation sequence (and spending LP to reorder it) is equally important as well. Fire at Will is one of the new combat drills in Operation Frostbite. The Shield Formation and Eject combat drills are also found there.

Where is the "Fire At will" drill laid out? Ive never heard of it?

I'm a relative newbie to AT-43 but it seems to me that the effective use of combat drills is the key to victory

cheers,

Yeah for 3000 point games the rulebook missions work out fine. Its really only when you push into the 4500+ range that more control points are helpful to balance things out.

Cool. I'm playing Mission #3, my Karmans vs RB at the weekend. We'll probably stick to 2000ap & hope to have enough time to both be attacker (I.e. 2 battles). Nice to know we have the option to up to 3k in future.

Can 2000ap missions in main rulebook be used at 3000ap without modification?

At 2000ap I have to leave out too much of Karman Army. I do intend to try them at 2000ap first.

Hi vastatum, I love all the information that your website provides. Great job!!! One thing that I noticed about what you state in relation to Atis and her teleportation routine is incorrect. You state: "The downside to this is that if some of your units cannot be placed in contact with the enemy and maintain cohesion, they are immediately eliminated." This is not correct. Only Atis needs to be in contact with the enemy unit. Here is the link where it was discussed.

Again, thanks for the awesome website!

Hopefully you guys get some new people coming out, I'm listing all the community events that come up on the forums here so they get some more exposure. I won't be there as I'm in Canada but hopefully some people see the post and are able to attend.

Hi,
I am Dave Wilkin, from Bedford Gladiators. I am organising the Tournament at Cranfield's Wargame Workshop on Sat Nov 15th. I must admit I am not sure of numbers for the tournament, and after seeing your post on the blog, wondered how many people may be coming!! I envisaged maybe 6, 8 if we are really lucky! There are a few of us who enjoy AT43 at the Gladiators, and we would look forward to meeting other fans! (remember to mark your models in a way as to identify them as your property if you come along!!)
 Cheers, Dave

FYI,

Reps from R. are flying to North America this week to work on US.Canadian distribution issues personally.

So, they are taking it very very seriously and we should be up and running by the end of Nov.
