Red Blok Starter Set Army
The new starter sets that are being released in June have some tremendous value. For $70 USD MSRP you get a complete 2000 point army that is ready to play out of the box. No need to paint, no need to assemble, just open the box and play. This is a starting force that is based around the Red Blok starter that will give you some more tactical options at 2k points but also let you field a nice 3k point army.
This list is tuned for 3k points and follows the basic Red Blok troop pattern.
Platoon 1
- 12 Krasnye Soldaty (+ Captain P. Vrachov, 3 Grenade Launcher)
- 8 Krasnye Soldaty (1 Grenade Launcher)
- 9 Dragonov Kommandos (Sergeant, 3 Sniper Gun)
- Urod (+ Colonels Odin & Manon)
- Dotch Yaga (Lieutenant)
Platoon 2
- 12 RPG Soldaty (+ Sergeant A. Tymofiyeva, 3 Rocket Launcher)
- 2 Sierp (Sergeant)
- 1 MedTec
In addition to the starter set you would need the following boxes.
- RPG Soldaty + attachment
- Sgt Timofiyeva
- 2 Sierps
- Captain Vrachov
- Dragonov kommando attachment
This rounds out the force at 3000 points, gives you a great base of models to build on and gives you the essential Sierps. You also gain almost unlimited staying power when combining Captain vrachov’s Krasyne with the medtec unit. This guy becomes your point holder. No one will be able to kill that unit when it has 6 medics and a field hospital.
Sgt Timofiyeva also adds some disruption and the ability to mess with your opponents activation order. This is a nice basic list with a few great tricks up its sleeve.
You’ve sold me on that point holder combo.

So is this starter set just a collection of previously released pieces?
Is the idea here its a ‘bulk buy’ so you save a few bucks?
Will there be any terrain pieces included?

yup, you’ve got it. The box will include a tape measure, blast template, containers and low wall sections. 6 of the red blok army dice and the measurement ruler should also be in the box as well. You will be able to pick up one of these armies and have everything you need to play in the box.
It says “Red Blok Ruler” on the box, but it isn’t that clear-red, hard plastic thing you are thinking… it is a French translation “issue”… they mean a tape measure that has a yellow Red Blok symbol on the side instead of the old version that had the red Rackham serpant.
These are also not repacks nor previousely released pieces. These are special version made for this box. The troops have mono-chrome tan pants instead of the red and tan camo. They are also missing the old emblems on the shoulder pads. Oden and Manon have new paint jobs, more simple, though the hair is brighter this round. And the vehicles have slightly “softer” looking paint jobs. Don’t worry, though, the vehicles look fine with your old army pieces and look great with this new set.
You also get 12 dice (the normal black Rackham ones, not the Red Blok Dice Tin version), 6 low walls (like in the Damocles set) and a very brief intro set of rules and a single page tactical “manual” which would be better named as a tactical insert.
Your Dragonov setup has an issue… in the army box you get 2 standard komandos, 1 EWS, 1 sniper, 1 officer, and 1 medic. You don’t get any standard komandos in an attachment box which leaves you with one slot short in your 9-man team. I suppose you could use your attachment box Gauss trooper in that slot if nobody cares at your table.
The only item that appears unchanged (beside the dice and walls) is the container. It matches the old containers perfectly.
The best part of this box, though, is the value. I can’t believe they put a Dotch yaga in there at this price. Nice.
